stumptown coffee roasters

while in portland, never ask a local where a starbucks is. you will likely offend them deeply. but ask where you can find a stumptown… and they might even walk there with you. or hug you. because after all, stumptown put portland on the map! [according to some.] we have tried stumptown before, brewed at our home, thanks to some lovely friends who brought us some as a thank you for crashing at our place on their journey back to edmonton from portland. but its the stumptown experience that adds to the greatness of this coffee.like i mentioned previously, there was a stumptown attached to the ace hotel lobby. the girls in there were soooooo nice and helpful. despite the long line, our barista chatted away to us about visiting portland, and helped us pick the perfect coffee beans to take home. i’m sure everyone was glaring at us by the time we left- but we were smiling.

we were able to hit up another stumptown downtown too on another day. what i liked about this one was the giant magazine wall that had all the best magazines for sale. [not pictured] what a good idea! even though i am very very rarely a magazine buyer, i loved the idea.

  1. I kind of like that Portlanders don’t dig the ‘buck. I’m not a fan either. :) In Anchorage there are 50 million independent coffee carts all over town. Not all of them are great, but some of them are divine! :) I like my coffee delicious… if I still drank coffee… which I don’t. Unfortunately it makes me totally jittery. I don’t like to feel jittery. But I envy those that can still have a latte in total peace. Drink one for me!

  2. i love the smaller roasters as well sal! my fave in vancouver is jj bean. but i will never be able to let go of starbucks because of their caramel macchiato. tall 1% extra foamy.
